Rupee appreciates 15 paise to 82.47 against US dollar in early trade

The rupee strengthened by 15 paise against the US dollar in early trade on Friday from its previous closing. The domestic unit opened at 82.52 against the dollar at the interbank forex, then rose to 82.47, PTI reported.

The rupee closed at 82.62 against the US dollar on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures how strong the dollar is against a basket of six different currencies, rose 0.03 per cent to 105.07.

International oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 1.22 per cent to $79.65 per barrel.

Equity benchmarks rise in early trade On Friday, Asian markets turned positive following losses in the last two trading sessions.

BSE Sensex rose 80.16 points to reach 60,433.43 points. The NSE Nifty rose 26.1 points to 18,018.25.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market on Thursday, selling shares, according to exchange data. 1,449.45 crores.
