Solar power capacity in India is set to increase from 28,180 MW in March 2019 to 53,996 MW at the end of 2021-22, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Power RK Singh informed Parliament earlier this week. According to this, there has been an increase of about 91 percent in the solar capacity in the country in the last three years.
The cumulative solar power capacity at the end of 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 was 34,627, 40,085 and 53,996 MW respectively.
Further, in response to a question whether the government has set any target to increase solar capacity across the country, the minister replied: “The government has set a target of achieving 500 GW installed capacity from non-fossil fuel by 2030.” In line with the announcement of the Hon’ble Prime Minister COP-26,
